Coach Houllier unhappy with Stephen Ireland's performances

Stephen Ireland began this season with great expectations as a new player at Aston Villa, but things are not going well so far. Coach Gerard Houllier has demanded him to improve his game or he might not get more chances to play.

As we know, the talented midfielder was left out of the team that Houllier used against Birmingham City last weekend. And the coach has a strong reason: "Ireland needs to work harder. In fact, Stephen played against Chelsea and did well, he played against Sunderland and was not good enough to me, simple as that. He needs to work harder. The skill is one thing but you need to compete".

The game between Villa and Birmingham finished 0-0 and Houllier was disappointed in most of his players. Therefore, there's an urgency to improve the level of the whole team.

Richard Dunne netted an own goal and helped Sunderland win

Aston Villa started this game with great chances to win, but in the end Sunderland got a 1-0 victory thanks to a Richard Dunne own goal. The defender has scored more own-goals than any other footballer in the history of the Premier League.

The funny moment of the game happened when a man dressed in a pink body suit jumped on the field. Security guards were able to convince him get out of the pitch, though.

Everybody in Aston Villa ended frustrated because their performance was more than acceptable, but they did not have fortune in front of Sunderland's goalie.

Aston Villa denies Martin O'Neill's resignation

After the disappointing game against Chelsea FC (7-1), many rumours suggested that Martin O’Neill had quit as Aston Villa manager. The main reason - according to this speculative version - was that O'Neill considerd that their low budget for new footballers this season was not suitable to make a good campaign.

However, sources close to Aston Villa comfirmed that this version is completely false, describing it as "pure nonsense".

Still, Aston Villa has made no official statement about this issue. Which is a completely understandable, since the club painfully lost a vital match against an inspired Chelsea, after a ten-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

Aston Villa got a 0 - 0 draw against Stoke City: O'neall is happy with the result

Aston Villa rescued only one point from their visit to Stoke City's field. The game finished 0-0 despite many chances created by Petrov and Carew.

Aston Villa had many moments of great football this Premier League season, but this game was an exception. James Milner, who is used to creating every offensive move of his team, had a terrible day. Meanwhile, the strikers had zero precision to score a goal. Both sides did not have the answer to find the opener in a very dull clash.

Despite that, coach Martin O'Neill was happy with the result: "It was a really tough afternoon for us. We defended very stoutly indeed. Still, we must understand that this match didn't have that many clear cut chances. So, it I think a draw was probably a fair ending for the match".
