Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney was the absolute hero of the game. His offensive power and precision killed Aston Villa just in the first half, with two superb goals scored in the very first and the very last minute of that period. The match took place at the Old Traffor Stadium, a pitch where Rooney feels really comfortable.
Darren Bent scored for Aston Villa in the second half and some Villa fans though that the equalizer was possible. But five minutes later, Nemanja Vidic netted the third and last for United and crushed the visitors' hope.
After the match, coach Gerard Houllier expressed that Rooney was a key factor for this result. "Wayne was the different player today. However, we have helped his confidence and that should not happen... all he needed was a goal. We gave him one. He took it very well."
Aston Villa squad is now in the 14th place of the Barclays Premier League with 28 points, while Manchester United remain as strong leaders with 54 pts.
